On her latest album, Taylor Swift slows down and forgets about revenge or cold-heartedness, to focus on growth and letting go, with slower beats and lyrics like I forgot that you existed and I thought that it would kill me but it didn't it seems that Swift is past anger and resentment and is instead focusing on the journey healing, and moving on, has brought her.
Soft pink tones, pastel blue, and a glitter heart are part of Taylor's new cover for her album Lover as she says goodbye to the tougher version of her, seen in her previous album Reputation, where she calls out everyone who has wronged her and sings lyrics like maybe I got mine but you'll all get yours in Look What You Made Me Do.
Lover is an album that as the title suggests is about love, from relationships (I Think He Knows) to break-ups (False God), to marriage (Paper Rings), to self-love (Me) Swift presents to us 18 songs that sound quite different from her previous album but still follow the same utopian romantic fantasy we heard in her album 1989.
Swift seems to frequently use seasons as metaphors in order to explain how feelings change the way seasons do, or how despite the fact that seasons change her feelings for who she loves will not.
Swift also compares herself to a warm-season in Cruel Summer where love went wrong and Swift describes how the warmth leaves when the winter comes, meaning the love she once felt has left, and even if it's still summer, it is too cold to feel love.
Taylor may love to sing about romance, but there is one song that makes a stand against the world she has to face by being a woman in an industry ruled by men.
Swift points out the gender inequality issues she faces in The Man where she sings, I'm so sick of running as fast as I can, wondering if I'd get there quicker if I was a man while also singing about how women tend to be criticized for their looks and attitudes before anyone focuses on their abilities which we can hear in the lyrics what I was wearing if I was rude, could all be separated from my good ideas and power moves.
Lover is Swift’s first album produced by herself since leaving Big Machine records and to the surprise of no one, she has proven one more time that she does not need a man to be a great woman.
